Rubies in the Rubble is a sustainable brand I’ve been fond of for a while. I’ve even had the chance to interview the founder, Jenny Costa, in my Behind the Biz series.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To put it simply, Rubies in the Rubble make condiments with a conscience. They save surplus produce and turn it into a range of high quality relishes and jams. They create everything from award-winning relishes to ketchups and vegan mayo with ingredients which would otherwise go to waste for being the wrong shape, size or colour. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jenny founded the business back in 2011 after discovering that fruit and veg that didn’t ‘look right<\/em>‘ was sent off to landfill. She has been rescuing fruit ever since.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the UK alone, 7.2 million tonnes of food and drink are thrown away each year. Isn’t that crazy? It’s fantastic that founders like Jenny are taking action into their own hands and building businesses around these social issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today I want to talk to you about 2 latest product launches from the brand. First up is their sustainably sourced, 100% natural tomato ketchup that contains 3 times the fruit and 1\/2 the sugar of regular ketchup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ve really enjoyed testing out this tomato ketchup and already know that I’ll be buying another bottle once it’s finished. It’s not sweet and sickly like the ones from competing brands and tastes just as good, if not better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ve also found that a little ketchup goes a long way which is a nice bonus as it come in a cute 250g glass bottle – YAY to less plastic. It works perfectly on burgers, with breakfast or to simply dip your favourite fries into.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next we have Aquafaba Mayo. This is a vegan mayonnaise which means it’s made without eggs. Not only is this a fab options for the vegan community but it’s also super handy for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to eggs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They make the mayo with aquafaba which is the protein-rich water left over from cooking chickpeas. Pretty nifty, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s smooth and creamy and a good substitute to regular mayo. It has a slight citrus zing to it and works well on burgers and in sandwiches. I really like it and use it regularly when we make burger at home. I wouldn’t normally opt for mayo on my burger but I really enjoy this one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Phil is a huge fan of mayo and although he doesn’t think it tastes exactly like the real thing he still enjoys it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
