I’ve finally finished up with my work, washed my hair and I’m here to talk to you about one of my favourite clothing brands, Joules. A few weeks ago I was very lucky to be sent a couple of items from their spring collection. You can probably imagine my excitement when I opened up the parcel and found this beautiful bright red skater dress inside. Being a long-term fan of Joules and a lover of style from the 50s I was very happy indeed. There was also a navy blue cardigan that just so happened to go perfectly with the dress.

When I was planning out photos for this post I imagined a cute little picnic, fun heels and a lot of twirling in the sunshine. However, I quickly snapped back to reality. The weather has been pretty grim here in Sheffield and as the days passed by I knew that I wasn’t going to get the sunshine I hoped for. My expectations for this dress (see below) will have to wait ’til the weather brightens up.

Bag* – Kate Spade (similar) | Shoes – Irregular Choice

I’ve kept things real for this post. I’ve had to team this dress with a pair of rain boots on the three occasions that I’ve worn it. But you know what? I’m very happy in wellington boots. They may not be cool or the prettiest of footwear but they keep my feet dry and I can walk for miles in them. I also think that this dress works well with wellies. It fits in with the feeling of countryside adventures that Joules gives off but I’m sure it’s longing for a picnic on the beach soon.

Find out more about my rain boots.

Dress c/o Joules | Cardigan c/o Joules

Joules offer a wide selection of women’s dresses. In the past I’ve worn their tunics, especially during my time living in Southwold. This 50s style dress was new to me, though I was instantly sure the skater style would be a flattering shape. The dress is true to size and in regards to length, I’m about 5’3 and the dress falls just below my knees. I’m tempted to turn it up an inch so that it sits above my knees, but I’ve been happily wearing it at the current length.

There is a discrete zip up the back of the dress, it’s easy to do up and isn’t noticeable when you have the dress on. This dress also has a lining, something you don’t find often in many high-street shops. It adds extra comfort to the dress and is very handy when the weather is windy. The dress is 100% cotton so as you can imagine, it’s lovely and soft and a real pleasure to wear. You must pop into your local Joules store and take a look at this dress IRL, it’s a real beauty.

Although I’ve had a couple of jumpers from Joules, I’d never tried their cardigans. The one I’m wearing is the Dorothy button-through cable knit. It’s a very href comfortable cardigan with ribbed cuffs to ensure the sleeves don’t become baggy. The sleeves are just the right length, I sometimes have trouble with long sleeves, not here. It’s soft and light yet still manages to keep me warm. In these photos I was battling against wind and fine rain, the cardigan did a good job at giving me a little warmth, my poor legs were frozen though.

I think this cardigan is going to be one of my favourites throughout summer. Navy is bound to go well with most summer dresses and I can’t wait to pair it with a white skater dress. You can also find this cardigan in pink, coral and baby blue. I want it in every colour!

Although I’ve been shopping with Joules for a good few years I had no idea they were founded in 1989 by a chap by the name of Tom Joule. He’s created a very iconic brand, don’t you think? I believe the brand started to stand out to me after I spotted the cute hare logo on my dad’s shirts (fyi – the logo was introduced around 2006) and I soon found out all about their wonderful clothes. I’m sure you’re all aware, but it’s not just quality clothes that you can find in Joules. They also have a fantastic collection of home-ware, I can assure you that their bedding is very good quality.

I can’t wait for the weather to brighten up so that I can wear this dress on my next trip to Southwold and of course, for picnics in the park.

Good evening, I hope you’ve all had a good weekend.
