I&#8217;ve been a fan of it ever since and I now pick up a bar most months from my local Waitrose. In October I received an email from the team at Mad\u00e9casse. They&#8217;d noticed my love for the brand through Twitter and asked if they could send a few more flavours for me to try. I obviously said yes and they kindly sent out a selection of 3 bars.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Like any good company Mad\u00e9casse has a strong story of social and environmental impact behind it. The brand was founded back in 2006 by 2 Peace Corps volunteers working in Madagascar. When I first found out about the brand I was surprised to hear that\u00a0Africa grows <strong><em>70% of the world&#8217;s cocoa<\/em><\/strong>, but produces <strong><em>less than 1% of the world\u2019s chocolate.<\/em><\/strong> Mad\u00e9casse exists to change this by making chocolate <strong><em>entirely in Africa.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mad\u00e9casse are empowering Madagascar\u2019s cocoa farmers with skills, training and higher wages.\u00a0The\u00a0chocolate is also made on the island. Mad\u00e9casse\u00a0have <strong><em>created income for 200 people<\/em><\/strong> in Madagascar. As of September 2015 there is a slight\u00a0exception to this. The brand has an interim plan in place (<em>Sep 2015 &#8211; Aug 2016<\/em>) to produce chocolate in America (a<em>long with their original factory in Madagascar<\/em>) while\u00a0they build their second factory in Madagascar. I was delighted to try it again and it really is a tasty bar of chocolate.\u00a0This bar is 70% dark chocolate and is filled with sweet coconut, which you can see on the back of the bar. The chocolate has a good balance of flavour and the slight tang of the chocolate works very well with the toasted, sweet coconut.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"hazelnut-choc\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/daisyhatami\/23319413172\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5635\/23319413172_0dd36f212d_z.jpg\" alt=\"hazelnut-choc\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Hazelnut-chocolate\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/daisyhatami\/23401710246\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/586\/23401710246_3d588923c2_z.jpg\" alt=\"Hazelnut-chocolate\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><em>Hazelnut: <\/em><\/strong>This flavour was new to me. It&#8217;s a 63% dark chocolate which makes it a little creamier than the coconut bar. It&#8217;s filled with hazelnuts and cinnamon &#8211; you can see the presence of these on the back of the bar as opposed to within it. This chocolate bar is delicious. It&#8217;s a rich yet smooth chocolate with nutty notes and a slight hint of warm spice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"madecasse-packaging\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/daisyhatami\/23132095120\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/718\/23132095120_783609f2cc_z.jpg\" alt=\"madecasse-packaging\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"orange-cranberry-choc\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/daisyhatami\/22800719643\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/767\/22800719643_8b84c7ee5d_z.jpg\" alt=\"orange-cranberry-choc\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><em>Orange Cranberry: <\/em><\/strong>This was another new flavour to me.\u00a0It&#8217;s hard to pick a favourite but if you were to push me then I&#8217;d go for Orange Cranberry. This is a 63% dark chocolate filled with cranberries and infused with orange. The cranberries add a good texture to the chocolate.
